Thousands of young people have been furloughed or lost their jobs during the pandemic. There are already more than 800,000 under-24-year-olds on Universal Credit. As a result, work opportunities for young people are much needed. Here we present you with a couple work opportunities, you might be interested in.
Kickstart scheme
A national Kickstart work programme was set up last autumn. The scheme aims to give young people the best possible chance of getting a job in times when the job market is facing many challenges.
Kickstart is a £2billion fund set up by the government to create high-quality, six-month work placements for people aged 16-24, who are out of work and on Universal Credit. Young people have the chance to develop skills and gain experience to find permanent work after completing the scheme.
Kickstart opportunities at Ealing Council
Ealing Council is taking part in the Kickstart scheme as an employer by employing around 20 young people.
As part of the scheme, as well as getting paid at National Minimum Wage, or National Living Wage (depending on your age), you get employment support and mentoring to help you in your new role and in your future career. Find out more about these Kickstart opportunities.
How can young people take part?
Jobcentre staff will identify people at risk of long-term unemployment to refer to the scheme.
If you are between 16 and 24, out of work and currently claiming Universal Credit, speak to your Jobcentre work coach to see if they can refer you to the scheme.
