Footie, films and tales off the telly

In the 17th instalment of Reel Life blog, we take a look at what the glamorous world of telly, showbiz and movies has been doing recently, hanging around the borough with their crews and clapperboards.

As the summer months lazed along, it wasn’t all lemon and lime gin and fashionable wellies at festivals for the film industry. Some of them were hard at work making things for us to watch. The council’s West London Film Office did its best to keep them occupied.

The new series of The Chelsea Detective dropped into the borough a few times earlier this year. Now on to its third series, the show’s crew shot around Stephenson Street in north Acton and Templewood in West Ealing. You might have ‘detected’ the 2 main stars pictured above.

Theo James, fresh from his time placating gangsters in Netflix’s The Gentleman, joined up on a new feature film called Fuze. Combining unexploded bombs and bank robbers, don’t expect watching it to be a stress-free couple of hours. The film office arranged a bit of traffic control at Goodhall Street in north Acton for them to shoot a scene or 2.

After all those shenanigans, you might want to settle down with a bit of Escape to the Country. Avid watchers might notice Pitshanger Lane appear in the new series. Does this mean someone living there is considering leaving Ealing? Not something we’d recommend.

And, finally, who could have missed the fact that the football is back? Did it ever go away?

The Premier League filmed its kick-off campaign at a barber’s shop in Mandeville Road in Northolt. We can only assume it must be where all the professional footballers go for a trim.
